And you really must have the option I'm speaking of, located in *WU's Change settings" area, if you're using Vista. Here's the pertinent section of it: http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/737/wulq9.png So, there's no URL's, nothing to install, no browser to run. In Vista, MU has been subsumed into WU.

The Vista install is failing silently. In my case, it was a FUBAR motherboard (Vista had installed previously) reporting itself as non-ACPI compliant. If this is too risky for you, you can disconnect your existing XP drive, install XP on the second hard drive, then upgrade to Vista from within XP.

Vista isn't revolutionary, but it has a lot of incremental changes. Overall, it's a significant improvement, but there are two drawbacks: (1) it wants a level of hardware (ram, cpu speed, etc.) that your work computers may not measure up to, and (2) there are always good reasons to wait for Service Pack 1.

Vista Dual Boot Installation Procedure
During vista install, and before formatting, you are given the opportunity to delete existing partitions, and go back to an unpartionitioned drive. In other words, put it on the 2nd; uninstall it from the 1st. Also, with the OEM licence, you can not get the 64bit version, if you have the 32bit version from

A fresh Vista install is indeed FAST. Very fast, as a matter of fact. Yeah - I was surprised by it too. First, Microsoft's Vista Upgrade Advisor is misleading. For me, it said nothing was wrong, safe to install Vista. So when you install xp after vista, the key point is to restore the boot sector. If you don't, you can write all the MBRs you want, they won't fix your problem. No one has said that only the MBR had to be changed to "fix your problem". (Please note that it is not I who has the problem of the inquiring poster.
