The user has indicated that the first thing he did when setting up Vista was turn off User Account Control. MS Update won't install on Vista with SP1.
Hi, My son installed Vista as a dual boot system with XP on a second hard drive of his PC. After the install, the PC would only boot into Vista and not into XP, so he (perhaps rashly) reformatted the Vista drive in order to remove it from his system. Now the PC won't boot at all from the hard drive.

Vista partition recognition / windows xp partition recognition?
It took about an hour to install and I'm pleased to report went off without a hitch. It runs Aero fine (including the 3d stuff) and the speed is actually a bit better than XP for me. The meter shows my RAM at about 50% usage with the OS and gadgets alone so I might go up to 2GB just to keep it below 33%.

To rule out some kind of BIOS misconfiguration, try booting from a bootable DVD such as a Vista install disc.
